Sandra C. Merz-Abella, 80, of Greenwood went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at her home surrounded by family and friends..

An Indiana native, Sandy was born in Indianapolis on January 10, 1937 to her loving parents Leo and Beulah (Wrennick) Merz. She graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1955. Sandy worked for her father at the Merz Pharmacy on West Washington Street as a postal clerk and a soda jerk before working for Indiana Bell retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. When she retired she enjoyed working for Tuesday Morning retailer part time. Sandy was a lifelong member of Ben Davis Christian Church. She was an avid bowler, euchre and poker player, Sandy loved going to the casinos with family and friends. Sandy loved traveling; she had taken many trips with her mother including going to New York City to watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve, to the Kentucky Derby, the Orient (Japan being her favorite) and Cuba. She continued traveling her entire life taking trips with family members and friends.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband and companion of 30 years: Eustolio “Blackie” Abella; several step-children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousin: Barbara & Ed Kendall; a special life-long friend: Charlene Harmon and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Charles D. Merz; sister: Cloe A. Merz-Miller; and a special loving cat: Keesha.

Funeral Ceremony will be 12:00 P.M. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Indianapolis Chapel, 925 East Hanna Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service with the interment following at Greenlawn Cemetery.
