Mary Jane Schaeffer “Janie”, 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Indianapolis. Janie was born on June 26, 1938 in Portland, Indiana to Darious and Jeanette (Bishop) Hamma both of whom precede her in death.
Janie graduated from Angola High School in 1956 and furthered her education at Ball State University earning a degree in Education and then going on to earn a Masters at Indiana University.
Janie taught fifth grade at Avon Community Schools for 27 years until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church. One of Janie’s hobbies was making handmade greeting cards and she shared that with others by teaching a class to church friends.
Janie is survived by her husband of 57 years: Lee J. Schaeffer, daughters: Diane Schaeffer; Lisa Ann (Schaeffer) Acevedo both of San Diego, California; and a host of other family and friends.

Interment of her urn will take place at West Ridge Park Cemetery.
