Edward Eugene Henemyre
1959 - 2017

Edward (“Ed”) Eugene Henemyre died on December 30th, 2017 following a brief but hard-fought battle with Metastatic Esophageal Cancer.

Ed was born to Thomas and Margaret Henemyre on November 1, 1959 in Richmond, Indiana. Ed moved to Indianapolis in junior high and was a 1978 graduate of Emmerich Manual High School, where he played football and baseball. Ed enlisted in the Navy after high school and served as a boiler technician aboard the USS William H. Standley from 1979-1982. Following his time in the Navy, he was employed as a Maintenance Mechanic at Ingredion Incorporated (formerly National Starch Food Innovations) for thirty-three years, retiring in December 2017. He was a member of the United Steelworkers union.

Ed married his late wife, Julia, in 1985 and together they had one daughter, Amanda.
Ed enjoyed working as many hours as possible, spending time with his family, playing with his pets, doing daily crossword puzzles in the Indianapolis Star, playing golf, bowling, and walking through Garfield Park. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Butler Bulldogs, and Indianapolis Colts. He was a fan of rock music, especially Kansas. He loved Saturday Night Live and made it a point to watch each week, usually with his daughter.

Ed was known as a workaholic, holding jobs from childhood on. He often recalled fond memories of his childhood paper routes and high school job at a hotel. Ed was also a very generous and caring person, often donating to various charities and helping friends and family with anything they needed. Ed had a unique sense of humor and it was rare for him not to crack a joke or smile. He was known as a very stubborn man, earning himself the nicknames Hard Headed Henemyre and Hard Headed Ed. He was so stubborn that he defied every odd the doctors gave him, fighting as hard as he could to the very end.

Ed is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Amanda & Daniel Walterman, partner: Sheila Anderson, mother: Margaret “Peggy” Henemyre, cats: Elroy and Muffin, dog: Maude, step-mother: Alice Henemyre, siblings: David Henemyre, Patty Knoob, Heidi & Gary Vadakin, Goldie Martin, Woody Matney, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife: Julia, father: Thomas, brothers: Joseph, Thomas Jr., and step-mother: Janet Horton.

In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family has asked that donations be made in Edward’s name to the American Cancer Society and Cancer Support Community in Indianapolis.
Ed’s family wishes to thank Cancer Support Community in Indianapolis, Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL, and The Lotus Suites in Wadsworth, IL for their kindness throughout Ed’s treatment.
