Irene Bernice Moore
1923 - 2020

Bloomington - Irene Bernice Moore, 96, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 22, 2020. She was born March 28, 1923 in Indianapolis to the late August and Frieda Weiland Kuntz. She graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in 1941 and later attended Butler University. Irene married her high school sweetheart, Gene Moore, in 1942 and the couple remained deeply and devotedly in love throughout their nearly 75 years of marriage.

Irene was employed by Pitman-Moore, which later merged with Dow Chemical, where she served as a payroll manager until she retired. She loved sports and excelled in tennis, golf and bowling. Amazingly, Irene and Gene were still bowling together regularly until Gene’s death in 2017. Irene did not just enjoy playing sports, she also enjoyed watching them. She was an avid fan of the Pacers, the Colts and the teams at Purdue and Indiana Universities. Additionally, she enjoyed fishing and participating in treasured trips with her husband and sons in Wisconsin.

Irene’s unwavering faith in and love of God spanned her entire life. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Indianapolis. She joined the choir as a young teenager and shared her amazing and gifted soprano voice until she was in her late eighties. Her beautiful solos will be fondly remembered by many. She will also be remembered for her wit, humor and her beautiful snow white hair. She lived a long and vibrant life filled with faith and love of family and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; brother, Robert Kuntz, sister, Marie Sutphin; and twin infant siblings. She is survived by her sons, Denny Moore and his wife, Genelle and Bob Moore and his wife, Margaret; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many other loving family members and devoted friends.
Irene was privately laid to rest, with her husband, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
