At the age of 16, she moved to Frankfort where she worked in a garment factory. She continued her employment until her marriage to Charles in 1946. Catherine and Charles eventually settled in Indianapolis. In 1958, the couple moved to their residence on Lawton Avenue where they raised their 7 children. After the death of Charles in 1970, Catherine continued to live and raise their children in the family home. After the children grew up, Catherine began working at Indiana Periodicals. She also enjoyed making quilts, embroidery and having family gatherings. Catherine’s greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Dora Rogers Cottongim; brothers, Lee and Harold Cottongim; sisters: Ethel Smith, Christine Rayborn and Audrey Quearry; and daughter, Wanda Perkoski. She is survived by her daughters: Brenda Thompson, Donna (Michael) Huff, Connie (Duane) Raymer and Mary Thompson; sons, Michael Thompson and Tom (Chris) Thompson; son-in-law, Frank Perkoski; brothers: Vearl, James Derrell and Kenneth Cottongim; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Catherine’s family will receive friends Friday, November 1, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of her life will be conducted Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at New Crown Cemetery in Indianapolis.
