Greenwood - Barbara Kay Coyner, 71, passed away, Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Barbara graduated from Indiana University with a BSN in 1970 and again with an MSN in 1975. She worked at Veterans’ Hospital for 35 years, first as a psychiatric nurse and then moved into administration. She then worked with Emergency Medical Preparedness for the Veterans’ Administration Hospital as Area Coordinator. She also served for twenty-three years as a nurse in the Army Reserves achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Catholic Church.
Barbara was an ethical and moral person. And her religious values coloured all she thought and did. Her devotion to her family and friends was her main focus in life. Barbara was always proud of the accomplishments of her children and helped them whenever they sought her help or advice.
One of her greatest loves was her grandchildren. The grandchildren spent many days with her and their grandfather during vacations and summers. She prepared lessons and crafts to help them. Her faith and devotion to work was a center of her life. When asked how she would like to be remembered, she said that she wanted people to succeed and for her to be remembered as a loving daughter, loving mother, loving grandmother and loving wife. She also wanted others to remember her as a great partner and friend to her husband and as a patriot.
She is survived by her beloved husband of over 49 years, Fr. Alan Keith Coyner; son, Kevin Alan Junken Coyner and his wife, Jessica Ann Harlemert Coyner; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Dorothea Buitendyk and her husband, Randall Jay Buitendyk; sisters, Anita Lynn Stokes and her husband, Michael and Janet Junken Richardson; grandchildren: Ella Marie Coyner, Landon Michael Coyner, Rowan Ann Coyner, Monica Kay Allman, Elisha Lynn Buitendyk and Melissa Jane Buitendyk; and many other beloved family members and dear friends.
Barbara’s family will receive friends Monday, February 17, 2020, from 4 - 8pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue in Indianapolis. A Funeral Mass will be conducted Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 10 am at St. Andrew's, 920 North Main Street in Franklin.
