Matthew Isaac Smith, 52, of Greenwood passed away on August 20, 2020 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. Matthew was born on March 26, 1968 in Greenfield, Indiana to Vernon Smith and Joyce (Burdsall) Denger. Matthew earned his Eagle Scout in 1986. He was a faithful member of the Boy Scouts where he earned his Firecrafter and Order of the Arrow badges. Matthew was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, the National Eagle Scouts Association, and Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served active tours of duty, as well as, retiring from the Navy Reserves. Matthew was a Truck Driver for ABC Supply.

Matthew is survived by his children: Alexandra, Thomas, Mary and step-son, Ian; mother of his children and best friend, Kelly Smith; his mother, Joyce Denger; brothers and sister: Rev. Vernon Smith, II, Henry Smith, Aaron Smith and Ameara Emerson; aunt and uncle Ida Ruth and Charles Williams; nieces and nephews: Wendy, Kelly, Christina, Melissa, Lester, David, Nicholas, Angela, Jesse, Shelby, Kayla, Lily and Katie; several great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Funeral services for Matthew will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday August 26, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions 925 East Hanna Avenue Indianapolis. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood. The family will receive friends from Noon until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
