He was born July 4, 1935, at the family home in Smiths Grove, KY, to the late Edgar R. and Maggie Lois Moulder Ground. He was the seventh of eight children. He and his mother shared a birthday. Charlie moved to Ft. Thomas, KY and then to Indianapolis where he established himself as a carpenter/builder and top salesperson. He continued as a general contractor for over 40 years. He was the owner of the Gutter Helmet dealership in Central Indiana when he retired in 2001.

Charlie loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed genealogy, auto racing and motorcycles. He had a passion for playing Blackjack and rolling the dice in Las Vegas.
