Robert Merle "Bobby" Pickering Jr.
1954 - 2021

Beech Grove - Robert Merle "Bobby" Pickering Jr., 66, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at his residence. He was born July 10, 1954 in Indianapolis to the late Robert Merle, Sr. and Patricia (Jones) Pickering. He was employed in the janitorial industry.

Bobby learned his trade through the janitorial training program at Noble Industries. He received his certification of completion when he was just 18 years old. He worked with the Noble crew in Indianapolis for 25 years. He then provided cleaning services at Olde Point Tavern for nearly 10 years.

Bobby’s faith was an integral part of his life. He became a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church in 1970. He was baptized at the church in 1971. He developed many close relationships with fellow church members throughout the years.

Bobby was an avid sports fan. He particularly enjoyed rooting for the Indianapolis Colts and the Indianapolis Indians. But Bobby wasn’t just a fan, he also enjoyed participating in local sports. He was very involved in the Special Olympics from 1970 to 1990. He participated in the following events: soccer, basketball, baseball and bowling. He excelled in several categories and earned many medals and ribbons. Bobby attended Easterseals Crossroads center for people with disabilities for many years and participated in various activities.

Bobby loved traveling and experiencing new places. He really enjoyed a trip to Anna Marie Island, Florida in 2017 and he flew for the first time on a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2019. He also enjoyed dining out. While he enjoyed these experiences immensely, more than anything else, he loved the comfort and simplicity of home.

Bobby is survived by his loving friend, Becky Pena and many extended family members including his church family.

Bobby's friends and family may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.
