In Memory Of
Oswald L. "Ozzie" Cobb
1953 - 2022

Sunman, Indiana – Oswald Lewis “Ozzie” Cobb, age 68, passed away on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at his home in Sunman, Indiana following an extended illness. He was born on November 19, 1953 to the late Fred and Edith Imogene (Smithhart) Cobb in Henderson, Kentucky.

Ozzie attended Arsenal Technical High School in the class of 1971. He married Jill Annette Hill on January 14, 1989 during an ice storm, which the couple joked about frequently over the years. He had been a member of Mount Gilead Church in Mooresville, where he was baptized.

He had worked as a soy bean plant operator for an international commercial agricultural company, Bunge ( formerly Central Soya) for 30 years, before an industrial accident pushed him into early retirement. Ozzie took great pride in working very hard. He saw hard work as the measure of a man. Some of his previous occupations were: concrete construction, crane manufacturing, and manager at Steak and Shake. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and playing bingo in his active years. During his retirement, he moved from Indianapolis to Southeastern Indiana, where he and his wife opened an antique store briefly. He enjoyed traveling the United States during this time and was interested in genealogy trips where he learned more about his British and American ancestry. One of his distant great grandfathers, Ashby, was actually responsible for cutting through the first section of the Cumberland Gap. He repeated this story frequently. He was a member of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge. Ozzie's interests were in military history, US Westerns, mysteries and detective series. He was an avid Star Trek fan.

Ozzie is survived by his loving wife, Jill Cobb; children, William M. (wife Jessica) Cobb and Valerie (husband Roger) LaFave; sister, Sharon Mann; 3 grandchildren, Blake Davis, Bailee Cobb and Brayden Cobb; brother-in-law, John T. (wife Kathy) Hill, Jr.; sister-in-law, Louise Cobb; numerous nieces, nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; several cousins and former wife Judith Skaggs, mother of William Cobb.

Ozzie is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert Lee (wife Marie) Cobb, Wanda ( husband Jack) Harville, Hiram “Bud” Cobb, Tommy Cobb, Ruth Ann (husband Everett) Goodwin, Opal (husband Tom) Rust; brothers-in-law, Gerald Dean Mann and Jeffrey Hill; and father and mother-in-law, John T., Sr and Carol Gayliene Hill.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.
