Joe E. Overton, age 68 of Indianapolis passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. He was born on September 4, 1953 in Indianapolis the son of Donald E. and Wilma J. (Hoagland) Overton. Joe was a 1971 graduate of Manuel High School and following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country during Vietnam until he was honourably discharged in 1974. Joe worked as a warehouse sales representative for over 10 years at Wholesale Tools. On September 16, 2004, Joe married Carolyn E. Fesler and they have spent more than 17 years of marriage together. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, boating and tending to his flower garden. One of his favorite places to fish with his friends and family was at Cataract Falls in Cloverdale. Joe was a member of the V.F.W. Post 355. His family voted him the best pet sitter of all time and if there was a family functioning happening you could always count on Joe attending. He loved attending his grandsons’ sports games. Joe will be remembered as a man who was willing to help anyone in need.

Joe is survived by his wife, Carolyn E. Overton; 3 children, Mary (husband Brian) Ray, Nicole Ashworth and Jody Fesler; siblings, twin brother, John (wife Linda) Overton; Donald (wife Brenda) Overton and Beverly Clark; 5 grandchildren, Kyle (wife Katie), Tyler, Angel, Jaylin and Chance; great-granddaughter, Oaklee; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Joe is preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Overton ; mother, Wilma Overton Cook; son, Joe Overton II; brother, Charles Overton; and step father, Earl Cook.

A memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will take place at Greenwood Wesleyan Church at 1 PM on July 16th, 2022. Joe’s wishes were to be cremated, and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions is honored to handle Joe’s arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
