Everette Brooks Barnard, Sr. age 98 of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 following a long well lived life. He was born October 23, 1923 in Ceralvo, Kentucky the son of John W. and Ina Mae (Brown) Barnard. He was a 1942 graduate of Rockport High School. After high school he married the love of his life, Lois Inez Robertson on February 13, 1943. Everette was drafted on April 8, 1943 to the United States Navy. He served during World War II in Guam as a Corpsman. While in Guam, he helped build a hospital and then worked at the hospital caring for others. After serving in the Navy, Everette was then assigned to the Marines as a Corpsman until he was honorably discharged in August of 1951. When he returned to the United States, Everette began working as a carpenter. He then went on to start his own business and became a master trim carpenter.

He was a charter member of Maple Hill United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Everette served his community by volunteering at the Red Bird Mission out of Appalachia, and he also helped work on church projects in Texas. Woodworking was one of his favorite hobbies. He enjoyed being outdoors gardening and bird watching. Everette found great joy in helping with the Boy Scouts of America. He also liked to go canoeing and camping with his family. Everette was a true family man and always provided for all of their needs. More than anything, Everette will be remembered as a loving husband and father.

Everette is survived by his 8 children, Phyllis Ann (husband Ted) Smith, Judy Carolyn (husband Ted) Proctor, Everette Brooks (wife Nancy) Barnard, Jr., Wesley Dale (wife Mary) Barnard, Brenda Jeanne (husband Tom) Dougherty, Kerry Duane (wife Sandy) Barnard, Joseph Wade (wife Michele) Barnard and Sally Irene (husband Eric) Bentley; 2 siblings, Wanda Dale Werncke and John David Barnard; 19 grandchildren, Ted Wesley Smith, Deana Lafferty, Dusty Smith, Danny Smith, Starr Fryback, Vashti Mills, Gabriel Barnard, Everette Brooks Barnard III, Adam Barnard, Maria Barnard, Wesley Barnard, Chelsea Polk, Nicholas Polk, Lynette Barnard, Laura Frost, Avery Barnard, Candace Barnard, Minka Bentley and John Bentley; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Everette is preceded in death by his parents; wife Lois Inez Barnard; 4 siblings, Paul Barnard, James Barnard, Kenneth Barnard and Carol Barnard; and great-grandchild, Jeffrey Nicholas Rhodes Mills.

A funeral service celebrating Everette’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Maple Hill United Methodist Church, 4607 Northeastern Ave. Wanamaker, IN 46239 with Rev. Ron Haun officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Maple Hill United Methodist Church. Following services in Indiana it was Everette’s wishes to be buried in Ceralvo Cemetery in Kentucky. At the cemetery military honors will take place to honor Everette’s service to his country in the United States Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to Maple Hill United Methodist Church or Kindred Hospice. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions is honored to handle the services for Everette’s family. William L. Danks Funeral Home in Kentucky will be handling Mr. Barnard's graveside services.

His family is grateful for the generous outpouring of love, help and support he received from his neighbors, Joy and Steve, the V.A. Hospital who treated him like a hero, the expert and compassionate care from Kindred Care Hospices nurses, the generous and loving care of Ted Procter, our family nurse, the patience of his namesake, EBB III who never said no. Thank you for enriching his last years with kindness and the unconditional love he modeled so well.
