INDIANAPOLIS – Christin Shelby Jean Johnson Carnes, 40, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born to Anthony Wayne Johnson and Julie Kaye Camden Vanslyke on February 28, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Christin was united in marriage on January 27, 2019 to Jonathan Carnes at the Lighthouse in Indianapolis.

She adored her children, Taeleigh and Tanessa. Christin was always delighted to go to the park, swimming pool and on long walks with her two girls. She loved being a homemaker and helping her children with their hair before school. Christin enjoyed baking, making arts and crafts and attending her family Christmas party every year. She had hopeful plans for the future with her children and husband. Christin had a strong relationship with Jesus and high hopes for a better life.

Christin leaves behind her loving husband, Jonathan Carnes; her daughters, Taeleigh and Tanessa Kennedy; her siblings: Brian Chaszar, Anthony Johnson, Tomia Asbury, Tonya Johnson, Cecile England and Dorthea England; as well as her nieces and nephews: Raeleigh, Brooklyn, Sadie, Bryce, Brody, Brian II, Zh Yair, Kayden, Gabriel, Briana, Adam, Dayton and Raven.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mike and Norma Camden; her paternal grandparents, James and Dorothy Johnson; the father of her children, Timothy “T.J.” Kennedy; her great-great grandmother, Heathy Montgomery; her stepmother, Jeannie "Tee" England and cousin, Jesse Mathews.

Christin’s family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Visitation will also take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Newcomer and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jason Forthman officiating.
