INDIANAPOLIS – William Virgil “Billy” Chipps Jr., 51, passed away at 6:45 PM on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. He was born on June 11, 1971 to William Warren Sr. and Barbara Jo Shaffer Chipps in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Billy’s hobbies included writing music, playing guitar, watching old movies and being active on social media. He loved his family especially his mama and dad. Billy enjoyed cooking, spending time with family and keeping in touch with his mom and aunt. He was passionate about helping others when he would. Billy was a chef and worked for various restaurants and bars.

He is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Jo Chipps; his brother, Adam Chipps; his aunt, Lyndal Shaffer; his uncle, Glenn Shaffer; a host of cousins: Samantha Shaffer, Cindy Shaffer, Cathy Flinchum, Paul Shaffer, James Smith, Billy Shaffe and Odie Flinchum; and his friend, Jenny Smith. Billy was preceded in death by his father, William Warren Chipps Sr.; his grandmother, Agnes Shaffer; his uncles, Charles Shaffer, Wick Chipps, Jack Chipps and Ed Chipps; and his aunts, Kathy Shaffer, Hazel Shaffer and Sylvia Shaffer.

Billy’s friends and family may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Brandon Awrey officiating.
