Nancy JoAnn Harris, age 74 of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 following an extended illness. She was born to Edith Elva (Rockhold) Shields on July 9, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York.

Nancy retired from the Enterprise Newspaper after working as an apprentice journeyman for 27 years. She married Daniel Harris on July 12, 1985 and they spent 24 years of marriage together until he passed away on June 21, 2009.

Nancy was a devoted member of McGregor Road Baptist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching Sunday school, cooking, baking, hosting get-togethers with family and friends and spending time with her family and church family. Nancy also enjoyed reading, walking and going shopping. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13.

Being a born again believer, Nancy’s family finds peace in knowing that she is rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Nancy is survived by 2 daughters, Theresa Brown and Lisa (husband Kenneth) Gomes; 4 step-children - Daniel (wife Ruth) Harris, Anthony (wife Arlene) Harris, Liz (husband Dave) Nelson and Angie (husband Lynn) Huble; 3 sisters - Joyce Riva, Judy Betencourt and AnnMarie Shields; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel Harris; 2 sisters, Janice Harris and Mary-Ann Sena; and brother, Daniel Shields.

A funeral service celebrating Nancy’s life will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 21, 2023 at McGregor Road Baptist Church, 10850 East McGregor Road, Acton, IN 46259. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service on Friday at the church. The burial will follow the funeral at Acton Cemetery. After the burial, a meal will be provided at the church for those who would like to join the family for further fellowship.
