Alonzo Dois Wilmoth, born on October 27, 1937 to the late Alonzo Clinton and Ethel (Dodson) Wilmoth in Moss, Tennessee, departed this life at age 87, peacefully at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday, July 20, 2025. A dedicated factory worker for most of his life, Alonzo exemplified a strong work ethic and a quick wit that endeared him to many.
Alonzo was known for his lighthearted spirit, often charming those around him with beloved sayings such as, “I love you more than two,” and his signature cheerful response to inquiries about his well-being: “Hopping around on these old arthritis knees.” His family fondly referred to him as "duck legs," a nickname reflecting his shorter stature which he embraced with pride.
In addition to his work, Alonzo had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He had a great passion for playing cards, particularly enjoying games like Tonk and Poker. As an avid NASCAR fan, he spent countless hours engrossed in thrilling races. He found comfort in simple pleasures: savoring a cup of coffee, listening to bluegrass music, and cherishing moments spent with nature at his beloved home in God's Country, where he delighted in watching deer and wild turkey roam nearby. Alonzo also had a special affection for his 1967 Thunderbird, which was a source of pride and joy for him.
He is survived by his daughters, Norma Wilmoth, Annette Ross, and Brenda Ottinger; sons, Jimmy and Eddie Wilmoth; sisters, Daisy Troxell and Brenda Groff; brothers, Euel Wilmoth, Joel Wilmoth, and Dellon Wilmoth; along with 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Alonzo was preceded in death by his siblings: Delmon Wilmoth, Devena Cross, Valma Wilmoth, Betty Payne, Johnny Wilmoth, and Dumas Wilmoth.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Alonzo's life during the visitation on July 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, both to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Indianapolis. A graveside service will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood at 2:30 PM the same day.
Alonzo Dois Wilmoth will be remembered for his humor, his hardworking nature, and the love he shared with his family and friends throughout his life.
