Andrew Stephen McClary, a distinguished engineer, educator, and beloved family man, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on April 5, 1962, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Andrew's life was marked by remarkable achievements, deep devotion to his loved ones, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in his professional and personal endeavors.
Andrew's educational journey was nothing short of exemplary. Graduating as valedictorian from Heritage Christian High School, he pursued his passion for engineering at Purdue University, earning two bachelor's degrees -- one in Mechanical Engineering and another in Mechanical Engineering Technology, being awarded Outstanding Baccalaureate Student. Andrew's career was both vast and impactful. He served as an Engineer for Toyota Racing Development and Joe Gibbs Racing, where his expertise in race car engineering contributed significantly to cutting-edge advancements. His pioneering work as the sole developer of race car simulation software TRDSim--spanned over 25 years and was employed by racing teams globally across a variety of prestigious motorsport series, including GTD/GT3, IndyCar, NASCAR, V8 Supercar Series in Australia and Brazil, and Formula 1. Notably, Andrew designed crucial software features, spearheaded the development of fully articulated kinematics models alongside innovative mirror-technology. Beyond his hands-on engineering achievements, he contributed scholarly work to the Society of Automotive Engineers International as a published coauthor.
Andrew's professional endeavors extended to roles such as Adjunct Professor at Purdue University, Accident Reconstructionist, Forensic Support Analyst, Director of Program Development, registered Professional Engineer, and Owner of Infinite Solutions. His diverse career showcased his versatile expertise and commitment to advancing technology in multiple domains.
His service to the nation was equally noteworthy. Andrew proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Fire Inspector and Flightline First Responder at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. During his military tenure, he earned the Superior Academic Achievement Award at Chanute Air Force Base and the Honor Graduate Ribbon at Lackland Air Force Base, reflecting his dedication and exemplary performance.
Andrew's personal interests painted a picture of a man with varied passions and a genuine curiosity about the world. He delighted in collecting rocks and coins, enjoying history books and memorabila, particularly those centered around World War II. A devoted car enthusiast and model airplane hobbyist, he also enjoyed watching television shows such as Monk and King of Queens. His musical talents shone early on as first chair French Horn player in his high school band, a testament to his multifaceted nature.
Beloved by his family and friends, Andrew was known for his generous spirit and his playful teasing that brought laughter and joy to those around him. Meticulous in recounting stories from his past, he cherished every moment shared with loved one. His warmth and humor left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Andrew is survived by his devoted wife Elizabeth Lopez McClary; his children Mikhaela (Michael) Zalea, Andrew McClary II, Bradley McClary, Steven McClary, and Nicholas McClary; and his step-children, Vanessa lbara and Arafat Rincon, as well as his step-grandson, Angel Rincon. He also leaves behind his mother Barbara (David) Horner; sister, Elaine (Don) Renollet; step-brothers, David Horner and Nicholas (Susan) Horner; and step-sister, Tamara (John) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy McClary.
To honor Andrew's life, a funeral service will be held Thursday, April 2, at 1 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions located at 925 East Hanna Avenue Indianapolis 46227. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Friends may gather for visitation from 11 am until the time of the service.
Andrew Stephen McClary's life was defined by exceptional achievement. heartfelt generosity and an enduring love for family and friends. His legacy lives on through innovations he brought to the engineering world and the cherished memories he created with those he held dear. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with great respect and affection. He is now with his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ having confessed his sins and believed in Him.
