Anita Marie Horning-Pinkerton, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community known for her boundless kindness and spirited nature, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on May 18, 1961, Anita spent her entire life enriching the lives of those around her with her fiery spirit and generous heart.
Anita devoted 26 years of her life to working in housekeeping at St. Francis, where she became a familiar and cherished presence to many. Her dedication and hardworking nature left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike. Beyond her professional life, Anita was known for her fierce love and loyalty. She embraced everyone she met with warmth and a readiness to help, truly embodying a spirit of selflessness.
Her vibrant personality was marked by a love for simple pleasures. Anita enjoyed visits to Taco Bell, took delight in shopping trips to Kohl’s and Victoria’s Secret Pink, and had a fondness for Big Lots. She found joy in purchasing gifts for her loved ones, always thinking of how to bring a smile to their faces. Butterflies also held a special place in her heart, symbolizing the beauty and light she brought into the lives of others.
Anita is survived by her devoted family who carry forward her legacy of love and care. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Denise Cornett, and her brother Vincent Horning along with his wife Chasity. Her children, Sabrina Todd and her husband Steve, Ashley Johnson, Jason Johnson, and Joshua Johnson, remain a testament to her nurturing spirit. The next generation—her grandchildren Brandon Todd and his wife Kayla, Kabrina Todd and her husband Kenny, Steve Todd and his wife Halley, Aerial Johnson, Aaliyah Burdine, Kayden Metheny, Jaydon Johnson, Isiah Johnson, Jason Johnson Jr., and Jordan Johnson-Strong—cherish the memories and lessons Anita imparted. She was also a proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched deeply.
Anita was preceded in death by her brother Bobbie Horning and her mother Carolyn Adams, both of whom she remembered with enduring affection.
As the community mourns the loss of Anita Marie Horning-Pinkerton, they also celebrate a life lived with passion, courage, and immense love. Her feisty spirit and generous heart will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
