With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Carroll Gene Evans II on July 13, 2025, at the age of 50. Gene, affectionately known by many as Jellybean, Mean Gene, or Gene Boy, was born on November 15, 1974, to Candace (Carman) Foster and Carroll Gene Evans.

Gene was a man of many layers, a quiet soul with a strong work ethic, a helping hand when it mattered, and a personality that left an impression. Though he wasn’t always present in our lives growing up, he remained a part of our hearts, and we remained in his. Life didn’t always follow a straight line for Gene, but he found joy in the simple things: riding bikes or scooters, lending a hand when needed, and spending time with friends, whether in celebration or reflection.

He was never afraid of hard work and took pride in working with his hands, especially in construction and drywall. After earning his GED through Howe High School, Gene pursued and honed his trade, eventually becoming a proud member of the Union workforce.

He shared a special bond with his father, often helping him with car repairs or simply stopping by for a chat. Gene's favorite sayings, like “You know what I mean?” or “Yeah, I know it,” will echo in the memories of those who knew him best.

Though Gene’s time here was shorter than we hoped, we take comfort in the power of forgiveness, the grace of closure, and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be remembered for his grit, his warmth in his own way, and the mark he left on those who loved him.

He is survived by his children Shane Evans, Shannon Evans, and Jason Evans; his grandchildren Jamari Berryhill, Jasiah Berryhill, Dalanee Evans, and Ryleigh Berryhill; his parents Candace (Donald) Foster and Carroll Evans; and siblings Chris (Teresa) Evans, Ronnie Evans, John (Rachel) Farrar, Donald (Christina) Foster Jr., Charles (Beverly) Foster, Jaclyn Richardson, and Adam Foster. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry his memory forward.

Gene is preceded in death by his stepmother Debbie Evans; grandparents Norma and Jack Carman, Virginia Alley, and Carroll Gentry Evans; his brother Julian Turner Jr.; and several cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 925 E Hannah Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227.

Though his light may no longer shine in this world, it will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
