Listen to Obituary

Charlotte Ann Bassett was born on April 29, 1948 to Robert Sherman Bassett and Mary Catherine Elizabeth Bassett. She was the youngest child of nine siblings who grew up on a farm that was a part of the historic Roberts Settlement. While growing up on the farm, Charlotte spent a lot of her time in the playhouse that her father built just for his “Pumpkin.” Charlotte was blessed to grow up in a hardworking Christian family with a lot of love surrounded by her grandparents, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Charlotte accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and remained a faithful servant of the Lord throughout her life. She attended African Methodist Episcopal churches and loved to volunteer and serve. Charlotte used her beautiful singing voice to praise God in the church choir for most of her life.

Charlotte graduated from Hamilton Heights High School in 1966. She enjoyed cheerleading and she was also a debutante. After high school, Charlotte began working at American United Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis, IN. While at the company Christmas Party, she met John Louis Hall Jr. Charlotte and John were joined in holy matrimony in 1968. From this union, they had two children, Scott Monroe Hall and Johnice Louise Hall. Charlotte was later blessed with her youngest daughter, Megan Diane Hall.

Later in life, Charlotte was joined in holy matrimony with Robert F. Stennis. They both loved to have family and friends over for the holidays. Charlotte especially loved baking Christmas cookies and fudge to share with those she loved. And, she always had an Easter Basket for the little ones.

During her career, Charlotte worked for several companies in administrative, retail, and personal care roles. She especially loved working at the flower shop because she always loved fresh flowers. She also loved being a Home Health Aid for several elderly residents of Anderson, IN. After her retirement, Charlotte volunteered her time to the Allen Chapel A.M.E. weekly give away. She truly enjoyed arranging the clothing, shoes, jewelry etc. so that those who attended could “shop” with ease.

Charlotte loved being a Grandmother. She was affectionately called both “MiMi” and “Granny.” She always made sure that each of them received a new pair of pajamas every Christmas per our family’s tradition. She loved bragging about her grandchildren to her friends and family.

Charlotte spent her final years at the Allisonville Meadows Nursing Home in Indianapolis, IN. The staff and residents of Allisonville Meadows made her feel as if she were the “Queen of Allisonville” and we are eternally grateful for their wonderful care. She loved going to the activities room, working out, and singing at their church services. She loved to dress up and show off her extensive jewelry collection which often included her pearls.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents (Sherman and Mary Catherine); her son (Scott); her brothers David Granger, Robert Granger, and Larry Granger; and sisters Patricia Bailey and Marsha Lynch. Charlotte is survived by her two daughters (Johnice Evans and Megan Hall), her six grandchildren (Chandler Evans, Derrick Baker, Bree Evans, Vernon Evans, Tymarian Fuller, and Melique Fuller), her brother Jerry Granger (Teresa), her sisters Nira Sue Ackles and Rhetta Smith, and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Charlotte A. Hall wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers, and any other expressions of kindness and concern during this difficult time. We also want to thank all of Charlotte’s special angels. May God bless you each of you.
