Claude Herschel Wotring

Claude Herschel Wotring, a cherished husband, father, brother, and beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Avon, Indiana. Born on August 21, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Claude’s life was marked by dedication to family, faith, and community.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Gusta Wotring, who stood by his side through life's many chapters. Together, they nurtured a close-knit and loving family. Claude's legacy lives on through his surviving children: Ricky, Brenda (and her husband Denny), Steve (and his wife Debbie), Mike (and his wife Norma), and James (and his wife Stephanie). His life was enriched by the company of his brothers, Ernie, Frank, and Robert, and his sister, Elizabeth — each reflecting the strong family bonds he valued so deeply.

Claude was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Wotring, whose influence was foundational in shaping the man he became. He also is mourned with heavy hearts alongside his son, Claude Jr., and daughter, Gustina, who passed before him.

Friends, family, and all who knew Claude are invited to honor his memory at a visitation taking place at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Avenue in Indianapolis, on May 12, 2026. The visitation will start at 2:00 p.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for those touched by his life to gather, remember, and celebrate.

A graveside service will follow on May 13, 2026, at Greenwood Cemetery, 620 West Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and conclude by noon.

Claude Herschel Wotring’s life was a testament to enduring love, steadfast commitment, and the strength of family ties.
