Darrell Wayne Grimes, a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 10, 2024, in Greenwood, Indiana, at the age of 68. Born on August 9, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Julian and Roxie (Hill) Grimes. Darrell lived a life characterized by simplicity and a laid-back demeanor that endearingly reflected his personality.
Darrell had a fulfilling career as a Brake Press Operator for Metal Fabrications. His commitment to his work exemplified the dedication he held throughout his life, even as he cherished the time spent with his family and engaging in his hobbies.
He attended Emmerich Manual High School, where he worked diligently to earn his GED on July 27, 1990. This accomplishment was one of many milestones that shaped his journey.
A man who found joy in life's small pleasures, Darrell loved sharing family stories and spent many evenings laughing while watching classic television shows like The Andy Griffith Show and Gunsmoke. He embraced the warmth of family interactions and was always eager to pass down memories to his children and grandchildren.
In his leisure time, Darrell pursued various hobbies that brought him joy and relaxation. He found solace in fishing, woodworking, and landscaping, often sharing these activities with loved ones. His passion for bike riding kept him active, while his love for hot rods, old cars, NASCAR, and the Indianapolis Colts provided him with another layer of enjoyment.
Darrell is survived by his beloved children, Jay (Beverly) Grimes, Jena (Nick) Gastil, Tammy Grimes, and Jonathan Grimes. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Angel Grimes, along with his uncle, Steve (Joan) Hill. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, including Ashley (Kenny) Goldstein, Izabella Grimes, Cooper Waltermire, and Molly Grimes, as well as his great-grandchildren, Denver and Valen Goldstein.
He was preceded in death by his father, Julian Grimes, and his son, Darrell Grimes Jr.
Darrell Wayne Grimes will be remembered for his laughter, love of family, and genuine soul. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
