Listen to Obituary

We gather here, with heavy hearts and a touch of that hard-earned pride, to remember David Wayne Allen, or as many called him, “Spanky.” Born on the 12th day of May in the year 1969, Spanky was a man crafted from the fabric of hard work and unyielding spirit. He left this world on May 27, 2026, but his legacy is stitched into the very ground he worked, the tools he honed, and the hearts he touched.

David wasn’t just your everyday hombre; he started his own construction business, a testament to that jack-of-all-trades nature. Always handy, always ready: there wasn’t a lawn mower, appliance, or anything in need of fixing that Spanky couldn't tinker with or make right. He was the embodiment of passion and grit, a man who hated sitting still, who found his joy in keeping busy, hands moving, mind racing. Help was his middle name, especially when folks were in need. This world was his canvas, and every day he painted it with sweat and love.

Now, if you ever met him, you knew about his playful side too; like how he’d growl at his sister Barbara “because he can,” teasing and loving all rolled into one. His personality was as colorful as his interests, which ranged from the timeless charm of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley to the gleam of classic Chevy cars that probably had him smiling like a kid on Christmas. But nothing made his eyes shine brighter than his granddaughter Sophie, whose laughter and wide eyes in his presence were his proudest accomplishment. He never missed a chance to make funny faces, and from what I hear, Sophie cherished every moment.

He leaves behind a living legacy of family: his children Dustin and Katelyn, his dear granddaughter Sophie, siblings Barbara Allen-Harrison and Thomas Allen, a whole tribe of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with many friends and cousins who walked this earth alongside him. These are the ones who carry a piece of Spanky's heart with them, weaving it into their daily lives as the seasons turn.

But let us not forget those who came before him, lighting the path he walked—the late Richard and Ellen Allen, his parents, as well as grandparents Thomas and Rose Terhune, and Everett and Virginia Allen. Their spirits surely watch over him now as he rests.

David Wayne Allen was a man who embodied the spirit of a hardworking soul: the breath of sweat and laughter, pride and tears, the tough love of a family man and the gentle heart of a helper. Though Spanky is gone from this earthly home, his story, his laughter, and his legacy echo in the winds, the rustling leaves, and the beating hearts of those who loved him. Rest easy, amigo. You earned it.
