Denton Mitchell, a cherished and beloved soul, passed away on December 25, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 89. Born on September 1, 1936, in Blythesville, Arkansas, Denton was a life-long carpenter whose craftsmanship left an indelible mark on both his community and the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Denton's military service in the United States Army for four years reflected his dedication to his country and fostered a strong sense of discipline and commitment that carried through to every aspect of his life. His unique, old-fashioned personality made him a one-of-a-kind figure, and he was often the life of family gatherings, where laughter and love echoed in the air.
A man of many talents, Denton took great pride in building things with his hands. Whether it was constructing a piece of furniture or helping a friend with a project, his passion for carpentry was evident in everything he created. Each crafted item came with stories and memories, tying together the lives of family and friends in a tapestry of love and legacy.
Denton is survived by his adoring children: Helene Freitas, Kim Mitchell, Clifford Mitchell, Jeannette Silveira, Cynthia Alsup, Steve Mitchell, Denton Mitchell Jr., and Bobbi Jo Reynolds. He is also survived by step-children William Driscoll, Ramona Driscoll, and Cheryl Brousseau, along with several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit and teachings.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara Mitchell; his daughter, Tina Mitchell; his parents, Parnell and Nelle Mitchell; and his sister, Geraldine Altermyer. Each of these individuals played an important role in his life, and their memories will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
As we remember Denton Mitchell, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by hard work, devotion to family, and an unwavering commitment to building not only structures but also enduring relationships. His legacy will continue to inspire and resonate within the hearts of family and friends for generations to come.
