Ms. Elizabeth June Hansen was born on June 1, 1923 – Died on Oct 10, 2025 She was an only child. She lived in her home on Finley Avenue 93 years. She was a member of Garfield Christian Church since 1959. She can remember walking with a large group of the congregation to the new location on Walker Avenue, singing “Onward Christian Soldiers.”
She was married to Bill Spencer in 1946, they had one daughter, Ellen. For many years the family enjoyed spending time with friends near their mobile home in the Knob Hill Mobile Home Park and boating on Lake Lemon.
Elizabeth worked as a receptionist at Wishard Hospital from 1972 to 1992, with a huge retirement party that included a very large sign - “Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more.” It brought many laughs.”
Garfield Christian Church hosted Elizabeth and Bill’s 50 wedding anniversary, they were married 52 years, Bill passed in 1998. Elizabeth and Ellen continued to spend many weekends at Lake Lemon until her passing in 2007. Elizabeth continued going to the lake until the pandemic and social distancing became a reality.
Ms. Elizabeth was a very kind, fun loving lady who enjoyed helping others and appreciated her many friends who were so willing to run errands and do kind things for her. In the past, she became very proficient in adult coloring books. She also loved to work Word Search Puzzles – it kept her mind alert.
More recently she became skilled in live trapping possums and raccoons, then asking someone to take them someplace else. Last count 23 relocated.
A funeral service honoring Elizabeth will be held Wednesday, October 22 at 1 pm at Garfield Christian Church. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of the service at church.
No one will replace the love and joy she gave so generously to everyone.
She is missed.
