Gail Lynn Durham, 61, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on February 10, 2026, at 5:16 p.m., after a long and courageous fight. True to who she was, she faced life the same way she faced her illness — strong, determined, and unwilling to give up.
Born on May 7, 1964, in Indianapolis, Gail was a woman whose presence filled a room. She loved deeply, spoke honestly, and lived boldly. If you knew Gail, you knew she didn’t sugarcoat the truth — she told it like it was, whether it hurt your feelings or not — but it always came from a place of love. She was warm, vibrant, a little blunt, and completely unforgettable. You simply couldn’t help but love her.
Gail had a heart for caring for others and did so without ever expecting anything in return. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Harry Durham Sr., and a proud and loving mother to her children: Harry Durham Jr. (fiancée Rachelle), Ashley Durham, and Tiffany Durham (fiancé Johnathon). Her family was her world, and she treasured every moment spent together.
Her favorite role of all was being “Nana.” Her grandchildren — Jacob, Bryston, Daisia, Weston, Abigail, and Bella — were the light of her life. She absolutely loved being their Nana, creating memories, sharing laughs, and giving them the kind of love only a grandmother can give.
Gail loved the color purple, cheered faithfully for her Indianapolis Colts, and found her greatest joy simply being surrounded by family. She was always available to listen, always ready to stand up for the people she loved, and always strong when others needed her to be.
She is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren; her siblings Richard, Trish, Peggy, Shannon, and Christina; and many extended family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by Bonnie and Jerry Smith.
Gail’s strength, honesty, laughter, and unconditional love will never be forgotten. Though her fight here is over, the impact she made on those who loved her will last forever.
Visitation will be held on February 18, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E. Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Gail’s life. Please wear any shade of purple in her honor.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered
