Gusta Mae Frances Wotring, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 89. Born on December 27, 1936, in Morgantown, Kentucky, Gusta’s long life was marked by resilience, devotion to her family, and a steadfast spirit that touched all who had the privilege to know her.

She was the beloved daughter of Maddie Thurman Embery and Clora Edna Embery, both of whom preceded her in death. Gusta grew up in a loving family alongside her sisters, Martha, Agnes, and Evar Bailey, and her brothers, Dadie, Lonnie, and Charles. While she mourned the loss of her siblings Dadie, Martha, Agnes, Lonnie, and Charles, her bond with her surviving sister, Evar Bailey, remained a cherished source of companionship and strength throughout the years.

As a mother, Gusta's pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her sons Ricky, Steve (Debbie), Mike (Norma), and James (Stephanie), and her daughter Brenda (Denny), each of whom carry forward Gusta’s values of kindness, determination, and care. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren to cherish her memory. Gusta's husband of 70 years, Claude Sr., preceded her in death in May of 2026. Her late son, Claude Jr., and her late daughter, Gustina, along with their father are all remembered by those who loved them. Gusta’s unwavering love for her family formed the foundation of her life, fostering traditions and instilling a legacy of unity that will be treasured by generations to come.

Throughout her life, Gusta faced joys and hardships alike with grace and perseverance. The values she imparted and the stories she shared illuminate her lasting influence on her loved ones. Her memory is honored in the laughter, the lessons, and the enduring togetherness of family.

Friends and family are invited to remember and celebrate Gusta Mae Frances Wotring’s remarkable life at a visitation on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m., both to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A burial service will take place the following day, Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, 620 West Main Street, Greenwood, IN 46142.
