James Dean "Jimmy" Gentry

INDIANAPOLIS – James Dean “Jimmy” Gentry, beloved husband, father and papaw, passed away at the age of 59 on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at his home. He was born on September 27, 1964 to William Gentry Jr. and Vivian (Garrison) Gentry in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jimmy graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1983. Professionally, he was a business owner specializing in flooring. Jimmy owned “Gentry’s Carpet” from 1984 to 2015. He was united in marriage on November 10, 1984 to Kelley Rene Carter in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jimmy’s hobbies were fishing, hunting and playing Texas hold-em. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Jimmy was a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching most sports. He loved his grandchildren immensely. Jimmy will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Kelley Rene Gentry; son, Shane Gentry & his wife, Samantha; daughter, Crystal Haley & her husband, John; sisters, Becky Kristch & her husband, Steve and Cindy Gentry; grandchildren: Destinee Haley, Dakota Haley, Kelley Michelle Gentry, Zachary James Gentry and Laura Kay Gentry; father, William Gentry Jr.; sister-in-law’s, Carrie Smith and Gena; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Zachary Gentry; mother, Vivian Gentry; sister, Laura Kay Gentry; grandparents, Willie & Reva Gentry and Robert F. & Minnie B. (Miller) Garrison; father-in-law, James Carter; and mother-in-law, Trena Scott.

Jimmy’s friends and family may visit from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.
