James Henry Hooper Jr., known to many as the HVAC expert with a knack for dad jokes, passed away at the age of 71 on August 3, 2024, at Altenheim Health and Living in his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on October 25, 1952, in Indianapolis, to the late James Henry Sr. and Irene (Dickens) Hooper. He graduated from Emmerich Manual High School before delving into the world of heating and air conditioning.

James embarked on a colorful career journey, honing his skills as a Heating & Air Conditioning Specialist after attending trade school for HVAC. Over the years, he lent his expertise to various companies, most notably leaving his mark at Hooper Heating & Air and Newby. With a passion for tinkering in the garage and rolling out sheet metal, James was known for making his own pipes and skillfully repairing HVAC equipment.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, James will be fondly remembered for his lively personality. Renowned for his stubborn yet playful nature, he constantly entertained those around him with his arsenal of dad jokes. Described as "wonderful with children" and a true "Kid Magnet," James was adored by many for the attention and playfulness he showered upon kids. His nieces and nephews especially cherished him as the "Best uncle ever" due to his endless energy and willingness to engage in fun activities.

In addition to his work and hobbies, James found joy in playing cards at his buddies' houses and showcasing his skills on the pool table at the Eagles. His love for laughter and camaraderie was evident in every aspect of his life.

James also had a proud history of service to his country. He served in the United States Navy and earned a National Defense Service Medal for his dedication. As a member of both the American Legion and Eagles in Beech Grove, Indiana, James remained committed to supporting fellow veterans throughout his life.

James is survived by his loving children: Melissa Marie Lintvedt (husband: Charles “Allen”), James Henry Hooper III, Jennifer Lynn Hooper and Cassie Lawson; sister, Brenda Gail Smith; brother, William Johnny Hooper (wife: Carol); sister-in-law, Sheila Hooper; grandchildren: Gwendolen, Rosalyn, Zachariah, Megan, Andrew, George, Anastasia, Kaitlyn, Stephen, Heidi, Ashley and Cassidy; as well as numerous great grandchildren and extended relatives.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings, Larry Hooper, Terry Hooper and Karen Sullivan.
