James D. Retz

James David Retz, age 60 of Indianapolis passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born March 9, 1963 in Indianapolis the son of Joseph and JoAnne (Jarvis) Retz. James was a member of the class of 1981 at Manuel High School in Indianapolis. He was honourably discharged from the United States Marine Corps after serving for 4 years. James married the love of his life Rebecca “Becky” Stanifer on March 20, 1987 in Indianapolis and they have spent over 36 years of marriage together. He worked for over 30 years as a carpenter for Rickeson Cabinets. James was a true craftsman and loved what he did. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling and watching any kind of racing. James will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved to provide for his family.

James is survived by his wife, Becky Retz of Indianapolis; son, Bret Michael Patterson of California; 3 sisters, Rebecca Retz of New Jersey; Donna Collins of New Jersey and Jennifer (husband Jim) Hunter of South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers.

James is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Retz; and sister, Julie Retz.

James’ wishes were to be cremated. His family will be having a celebration of life from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at One Christian Church, 2578 Donika Road, Greenwood, IN 46143. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions in Indianapolis is honored to handle James’ cremation wishes. Memorial contributions may be made to the VA in his honor.
