Janelle Denise Harden, born on January 22, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, in the same city. A life full of warmth, connection, and dedication, Janelle will be fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Janelle carved out a rewarding career that she cherished, proudly working at Epson Federal Express until her retirement in 2020. Throughout her years there, she found not just colleagues but lifelong friends who remained a significant part of her life. Her passion for connection extended beyond her profession, shaping her into the loving wife, mother, and grandmother that she was.
Her educational journey began at Decatur Central, where she graduated in 1977. With an unwavering desire to grow, Janelle went on to earn a Certificate in Administration from Ivy Tech, laying a foundation that would serve her well throughout her career.
Janelle’s commitment to her country was evident in her service in the National Guard from 1991 to 1995, where she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience by completing basic training at the age of 34. This chapter of her life was a testament to her determination and dedication.
In her personal life, Janelle was a beacon of light, finding joy in a myriad of hobbies. She loved roller skating and bowling, and enjoyed the excitement of bingo. Her knack for games on her phone showcased her playful spirit, while her adventurous side shone through in her cherished drives with her husband along the scenic, less-traveled roads.
Janelle is survived by her beloved husband, James "PJ" Harden; daughters Kathleen Owens and Melinda (Matthew) Julius; grandchildren Joey Stonehouse and Jordyn Julius; siblings Vince Morford, Terry (Arlene) Morford; nephews Christopher Morford, Matthew Morford, and TJ Morford; as well as nieces Lisa Karen Durrett and Amanda Goss.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nadine Gray, her grandparents Ruby and Jim Holderby, and her dear friend Becky Wrightsman, each of whom she holds close to her heart.
Janelle’s legacy will continue to thrive through her family and friends, and she will be honored during visitation on June 16, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
