Janice Irene Hooper, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 74. Born on March 11, 1951, in Indianapolis, Janice was known for her warm spirit and her ability to bring joy to those around her. Her infectious laugh would light up any room she entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Janice dedicated over two decades of her life to working at Altenheim Senior Living, where her caring nature resonated deeply with the residents and staff alike. She also spent several years at Laughner's Cafeteria, contributing to her community and fostering connections with her coworkers and customers.
With a reserved demeanor in most aspects of her life, Janice truly came alive when it came to the thrill of the casino, where she found both excitement and joy. Her love for games extended beyond the casino; she enjoyed playing cards, particularly the game "31," and cherished the time spent on puzzles and word searches. The simple pleasures in life were especially dear to her, such as her fondness for Reese Cups and peanut butter M & M's and nurturing her plants, reflecting her green thumb.
Her proudest accomplishments in life were undoubtedly her children and grandchildren, whom she cared for deeply. Janice is survived by her loving son, Ronald Moon Jr., and her devoted daughter, Jennifer Hooper; as well as her beloved (and entertaining) sisters, Nancy Long, Brenda (Charlie) Schoenbachler, Debbie (Kenny) Qualls, Carol Eaton She is also remembered affectionately by her grandchildren, Nicholas Moon, Zachariah, Megan, Andrew, and George; and several nieces and nephews who were incredibly important to her.
She joins her parents, Leonard Scalf and Roselyn Scalf, and her step-father, Chuck Pengra, along with her sister, Peggy Born, in eternal rest.
Janice Irene Hooper touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
