Jean Norene Kendall Perkins, a beloved mother, wife, and friend, passed away on May 29, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 95. Born on August 27, 1929, in Chester, Indiana, Jean spent her early years cultivating a passion for family and service that would define her life.
A graduate of Richmond High School in 1947, Jean dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker after marrying Forest Lee Perkins on July 19, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Indiana. Together they created a loving home that nurtured their daughters and embedded values of faith and family.
Jean’s faith was an integral part of her life. Known for her unwavering commitment to daily prayer focused on the needs of others, she found joy in serving and was a dedicated participant in Bible Study Fellowship. She will be remembered for her compassionate care and thoughtfulness, particularly through her well-loved habit of sending cards with personal notes to friends and family alike.
Beyond her spiritual pursuits, Jean had a variety of interests that filled her life with joy. She enjoyed sewing, antiquing, and cheering on the Indianapolis Colts. Family vacations and sightseeing trips brought her great happiness, as did the simple pleasures of playing cards and celebrating Christmas with loved ones. Jean had a particular fondness for popcorn and chocolate, which she enjoyed sharing during family gatherings.
Jean is survived by her loving daughters: Judy Fackenthal and her husband, Fred; Nancy Ranck and her husband, Doug; and Sally Perkins and her husband, Jim. Her legacy endures through her grandchildren, Jeremy Fackenthal and his wife, Megan; Kathryn Fresquez and her husband, David; Kelly Johnson and her husband, Spencer; Landon Ranck and his wife, Jax; Elise Ranck; Kendra Obermaier; and Elliott Obermaier. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Radley and Wesley, and many nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Perkins; her sister, Mary Alice Birkla; and her brothers, Ora Melvin Kendall, Jr. and Emerson Porter Kendall. Jean's life was a testament to love, faith, and family, and she is profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
