Johnnie Thacker

  Johnnie Thacker, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on June 21, 1937, in Burksville, Kentucky, to George Willie Thacker and Malicia Thacker. Johnnie's life was one marked by deep devotion to his family, a strong work ethic, and a love for the simple joys of life. He spent his career as a maintenance man at Klosterman's Bakery, where his steady presence and reliable nature were appreciated by all who worked with him. Through his dedication to his work, Johnnie provided for those he loved and instilled in his family the values of perseverance and commitment. 

  At the heart of Johnnies life was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance that will be treasured for generations. He is survived by his son, John K. Thacker, and his daughter, Donna S. Murphy. Johnnie was a proud grandfather to Crystal Johnson-Mack, Brandy Murphy, Kimberly Cline, Daniel Murphy, John Thacker, Kathy Steele, and Matthew Thacker. His love extended to his great-grandchildren: Tylar, Patrick, Jazmine, Trinity, Steven, Austin, Alicia, Damian, Malachi, Deseray, Davanna, Melia, Kasey, Elizabeth, Louie, Maddie, Cara, Elenor, and Erin, along with 8 great-great- grandchildren. Johnnie is also survived by his brothers, Larry Thacker and Roger Thacker. He was preceded in death by his father, George Willie Thacker, and his mother, Malicia Thacker; his daughters, Christina Faye Thacker, Carol Lee Cline, and Patty Rean Thacker; his beloved wife, Zella Dean Thacker; his brother, Roy A Thacker; his sister, Lena Parrigin; and his brother, Jerry Thacker. Family remained the core of Johnnie’s existence, and he took great pleasure in gatherings—whether through celebrations or quiet afternoons spent together. 

  Johnnie had a deep affection for yard work and could often be found mowing his lawn, always happiest on a John Deere. His passion for all things John Deere was known by all who knew him. In his leisure time, Johnnie enjoyed following Indiana sports and was an enthusiastic fan of Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, cheering them on with genuine excitement. Johnnie’s warm heart, gentle humor, and strong spirit defined him. He touched the lives of everyone he met and set an example of honesty and kindness that will remain with his loved ones always. 

  A visitation honoring Johnnie will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Funeral services will follow at the same location at 1:00 p.m., with burial taking place at 2:30 p.m. at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. 

  Johnnie Thacker’s life was filled with love, dedication, and simple joys. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
