Larry "Pops" Slone, a steadfast cornerstone of his family, left this world on February 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that will echo through the hearts of those who knew him. Born on August 30, 1949, Larry lived a life marked by dedication and love, serving for over 50 years at the same company—a remarkable testament to his loyalty and hard work. This commitment didn’t just earn him an award for his long service; it was a way of life that he embraced with all his being.

Throughout his life, Larry was known far and wide not just for his work ethic, but for his vibrant personality. He had a way of lighting up any room he entered, a kindness that set him apart. Larry was the kind of man you could count on, always ready to step up for anyone in need, giving the shirt off his back without a moment’s hesitation. His devotion to his family was unwavering, particularly to his beloved wife, Sandy, as he dedicated himself to her well-being in every way imaginable.

Larry was nothing short of a true outdoorsman. He loved the hunt and found joy in fishing, whether it was deer, rabbit or squirrel, you could bet he would be out there, reveling in nature's splendor. When he wasn’t out in the wild, he enjoyed cozying up with a crossword puzzle or settling down to watch a thrilling Western. His heart also belonged to football, cheering on Notre Dame and Indiana University with an enthusiasm that made any game day more special. He had a true appreciation for the simpler pleasures in life—like enjoying a Bud Light alongside a strong cup of black coffee.

Larry’s love for learning was apparent; he was a well-read man who devoured books and cherished knowledge, always eager to expand his horizons. He created countless memories with his family over the years, memories that will be cherished forever by his children Gene (Renee) Slone, Leslie (Dennis) Walters, and Stephanie (Denton) Gross, along with his bonus son, Bill Sloan.

His legacy lives on in the next generations through the laughter and love shared with his grandchildren: Mercedes, Kayla, Gabriel, Jordan, Olivia, Reese, Ryder, Adam, Madisson, Hannah, Allison, Alex, Denton, and Dylan, as well as the joy brought by his great-grandchildren: Cheyanne, Abigail, Sadie, Sophia, Waylon, Addison, Ty, and Theo. Larry also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and an extended family who will carry his memory in their hearts.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Slone, and his mother, Sadie Slone, and he was the last of seven children. His journey has been fulfilled, and while he may have departed from this earthly life, Larry Slone will forever remain a beacon of love and dedication for those left behind. Rest easy, Larry, your spirit will be missed but never forgotten.
