Marquita J (Burriss) Hamm passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by warmth, humor, and kindness. Born on June 21, 1949, Marquita was known throughout her life as a well put together, very kind, funny, and lovable individual whose character touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Marquita’s sense of compassion and infectious humor brought light to many days and comforted those around her. Her ability to be both well composed and warmly approachable made her a cherished presence among family and friends alike.
She is survived by her devoted brother, Clifford Burriss; her caring nephew, Cassel W Burriss; her loving niece, Emily Burriss; and others who held an important place in her heart, including her great-nieces and nephews, Cassel D Burriss, Joanna Burriss, Lucy Burriss, Nikolas Burriss, and Tamara Eddy. Each of them carries forward memories of Marquita’s unwavering kindness and generous spirit.
Marquita’s memory is also cherished by those who preceded her in death: her beloved mother, Rose Burriss; her father, Floyd Burriss; her sister, Peggy Cline; and her husband, Michael Hamm. The bonds they shared were strong and enduring, and she is fondly remembered together with them.
A Celebration of Life for Marquita will be held Sat Sept 5th, 2026 at Tamarak Hall at Westminster Village North located at 11050 Presbyterian Dr, Indianapolis, Indiana 46236 Friends may gather for visitation from 1 pm to 2 pm followed by a memorial service beginning at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family of Marquita's cousin, Penny Keller to assist in the cost of Penny's pending funeral services. Donations may be sent via Venmo to @mrsbennett05.
Marquita J (Burriss) Hamm’s presence enriched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, humor, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed, yet her influence remains in the lives she touched and the memories that will be treasured for years to come.
