Martha Wunsch

Martha Wunsch, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on July 27, 1947, in Indianapolis, she lived a life rich in love, service, and faith.

Martha pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Indianapolis. She dedicated many years to serving as an administrator at a University before transitioning to work in a law office. Her professional life was marked not only by her dedication to her career but also by her deep commitment to volunteering. She was actively involved with the Alzheimer’s Association, where she notably edited a newsletter, and contributed her time and efforts to her neighborhood association, ensuring that her community thrived.

Her commitment to service extended into her spiritual life, where she was an active member of her church and a member of the church choir. Her strong faith guided her actions and fostered a welcoming spirit within her community.

Martha’s personal life was equally vibrant. Her love for reading led her to share stories with her children during their early years, creating precious memories that they still hold dear. An adventurous soul, she enjoyed living internationally, particularly in Europe, which broadened her horizons and further enriched her family's experiences. Quick on her feet and always resourceful, she skillfully balanced the demands of motherhood with the joys and travails of living abroad.

Martha was with her late husband for almost 50 years before he passed, Martha was a devoted mother, firm yet supportive, and a enthusiastic grandmother. Her home was often filled with the warmth of family gatherings, and she delighted in baking and cooking for her loved ones. Martha's fearless spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark on those who knew her. She was also known for her love of animals, particularly dogs, and cherished the simple joys of riding her bike, Zumba, synchronized swimming, walking with neighbors, and crocheting.

Martha is survived by her children, Jennifer Ferris and David (Kathryn) Wunsch, and her beloved grandchildren, George, Megan, Emily, and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Allen Wunsch, and her parents, Gladys and Truman Baker.
