Mary “Janie” Whitaker, 62, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on June 25, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved her deeply. Janie was born to William and Marjorie (Sauer) Henry on July 13, 1963.

Janie was a woman with a heart as big as her smile. She was kind, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved having sleepovers with her sister, kids, and grandkids. She was also lovingly known for being stern when she needed to be, always wanting the very best for those she loved. She was a natural jokester who loved to purposefully embarrass her grandkids in public places, tease, tell stories, and make her loved ones laugh. Her sense of humor could brighten any room. She had a way of making everyone around her smile, leaving behind countless funny memories that her family and friends will cherish forever.

Janie married Bob Whitaker on August 14, 1999. She loved him deeply. Janie was happiest by simply being by his side. She and Bob ended up with the modern day Brady bunch of kids (Plus a few) and she embraced the chaos of their big blended family!Janie also shared a special bond with her sister, Joann. Their relationship was one of love and friendship. The memories they made together will be treasured always. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Camping brought her peace, country music filled her heart, and she had a special love for Betty Boop and collecting elephants, which reflected her fun and unique personality. One of her greatest joys was cheering from the stands as she watched her husband and grandchildren race, creating memories that her family will treasure forever.

Above all else, Janie’s greatest love was her family. Her husband was the love of her life, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to him, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with those she loved most, and she made each of them feel special in their own way.Janie’s legacy is one of love, strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched, and the memories she helped create. She leaves behind a huge family who will forever carry her love in their hearts and will find comfort in knowing that her love, laughter, and strength will remain with them always.
