Myrtle C. McGuire

Myrtle Carol McGuire, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 6, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Myrtle was the daughter of the late Stanley D. Smith and Laura Bell Smith. Her journey through life was marked by love, resilience, and a deep devotion to her expansive family.

Myrtle was predeceased by her devoted husband, Timothy Cain McGuire, with whom she shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a legacy of love that will continue to flourish through their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and the many generations that follow.

Myrtle was the nurturing mother to Marcy (Steven) Calvin, Laura (Stan) Bryan, Moneta (Mike) Curry, and Cathy (Joe) Fitzgerald. Her son, Vernon Dee Schmidt I and her grandson, Jake Fitzgerald preceded her in death. Myrtle's boundless love extended to her 21 grandchildren including Chris Felts, Brian Felts, Brittany Calvin, Jason Calvin, April Brown, Jesse Schmidt, Tamika Larrieu, Angel McPeak, Melissa Thomas, Vernon Schmidt II, Doug Whiting, Nicole Harcourt, Sara Behnke, Tabetha Motley, Stephanie Seiler, Stan Bryan Jr., Elizabeth White, Vince Smith, Maria Siap, and Micah Fitzgerald. Her legacy is further remembered by 47 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Myrtle embraced her passions with enthusiasm. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society in New Palestine, where she formed lifelong friendships. Her competitive spirit shone brightly as a high-scoring member of the Senior Wii Bowling League at both Bethany Assisted Living and Hellenic Senior Living. Myrtle also enjoyed playing Euchre and Farkle, often delighting those around her with her infectious laughter.

A dedicated member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, which later merged with Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Myrtle was deeply committed to her faith and served on numerous committees. Her love for Jesus and her community was evident in every aspect of her life.

Myrtle's vibrant personality and unwavering honesty were well-known to all who loved her. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel like family, extending her heart and home to more than 100 family members and friends. Her dear friend, Ron Gill, stood by her side for the past decade, sharing in the joys and challenges of life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Anew Hospice for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Megan, Maddisen, Dakota, and Whitney. They also wish to thank the nurses and aides at University Heights Health & Senior Living who cared for her during her last few weeks. And a special thank you to the care team at Hellenic Senior Living for their dedication to Myrtle's independence and well-being during her eight years of living there.

A service to celebrate Myrtle's remarkable life will be held on September 4, 2026 at 1 pm Good Shepherd Catholic Church, located at 2905 Carson Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46203. Friends may gather for visitation from 11 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in her memory.

Myrtle Carol McGuire's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family friends, and community.
