Nila Lee Wicker

June 16, 1942 — May 29, 2025

Greenwood, Indiana

Nila Lee Wicker, known affectionately to many as a gifted storyteller, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana. Born on June 16, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she devoted her life to nurturing the love for stories while supporting the educational journeys of young minds as a Library Aid at Clinton Young Elementary School.

Nila’s passion for storytelling extended beyond the walls of the school. She had a remarkable ability to weave tales that captivated her audience, making her a cherished companion and friend to those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Alongside her love for stories, Nila was an avid fisher, enjoyed crocheting, and relished every opportunity to meet new people. Her vibrant spirit and warm personality left an indelible mark on her community.

Nila is survived by her beloved husband, Charles D. Wicker, and her two sons, Charles D. (Jacquie) Wicker Jr. and Steven H. (Staci) Wicker. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Charles D. (Cristal) Wicker III, Katy (Chad) Urick, Kasey Morrigan, Taylor (Ben) Wicker, and Steven H. Wicker Jr.; as well as 6 great-grandchildren who will carry forward the cherished stories and memories created by their grandmother.

She is also survived by her siblings, Annette (Jim) McMichael and Lou (Anne) Goss, whose support and companionship were invaluable to her throughout her life.

Nila is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Goss and Ruth Goss, and her sister, Sharon Lynn, who welcomed her into eternal rest.

As we remember Nila Lee Wicker, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose life was rich with love, creativity, and a genuine joy for sharing stories that brought people together. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
