Peggy June Hanshew, née Allgood, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, just weeks shy of her 85th birthday. Born on June 5, 1941, Peggy was a deeply caring and easy-going soul whose warmth and friendliness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Peggy was known as a devoted caregiver. She lovingly took care of her mother and was always the one to babysit others’ children, a testament to her generous heart and nurturing spirit. Her natural kindness and willingness to support those around her were constants throughout her life, making her a beloved figure in her family and community.
Peggy had a passion for the simple joys of life. She treasured planting flowers and spending time outdoors, where she found peace and beauty in nature’s embrace. Dancing brought her great joy, and she cherished moments spent with her family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Among her most treasured experiences were attending Elvis Presley’s last concert and traveling to new places with her loved ones, adventures that brightened her spirit and created stories shared with delight.
An exceptional cook, Peggy was proud of her culinary talents, mastering dishes that became family favorites. Her liver and onions and orange steak were legendary, and her Birds Nest Cake and homemade fudge were eagerly requested by everyone who had the pleasure of tasting them. Each recipe she made was a labor of love, nourishing not only bodies but also hearts.
Peggy is survived by her devoted children: Penny Hoagland and John; Jeffery Hanshew, Dennis Hanshew, Thomas Hanshew and Donna; and Randy Hanshew. She was a loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to fourteen great-grandchildren, each of whom carried forward a piece of her gentle spirit. Peggy’s siblings – Barbara Woods, Marjorie Russell, Florence Keever, Rick Allgood, and Bobbi Bennett – remain precious parts of her family circle, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Niles Hanshew, her parents Paul and Helen Allgood, and siblings Wanda Wood, Paul Allgood, Shirley Downton, and Eugene Allgood.
Peggy June Hanshew’s legacy is one of kindness, care, and joyful giving. Those who knew her will forever hold dear her easy smile, her unwavering generosity, and the countless moments she made brighter through her presence. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
