Rollin Stapp, born on October 13, 1942, left an indelible mark on all who knew him before passing away on June 13, 2026. A man defined by unwavering determination and a spirit that embraced life fully, Rollin was more than just a skilled mechanic or a longtime employee of Mitchum Schafer; he was the steadfast heart of his family and community.
His career spanned many years at Mitchum Schafer, where his commitment and expertise were unmatched. Not only was he a consummate professional, but Rollin's mechanical prowess was nothing short of extraordinary. He could rebuild engines and replace transmissions with precision and care, showcasing a technical gift that spoke to his dedication and hard work. Outside of the shop, his passion for NASCAR reflected his love for speed and competition—a true enthusiast who lived with a fierce, relentless drive.
Rollin's personality radiated strength and warmth. He was an awesome man: respectful, loving, and endlessly devoted to those he cared for. As the ringleader and instigator, his great sense of humor enlivened any room, and his big heart made sure nobody felt left out. He loved everyone, and that love was returned tenfold by his family, friends, and wider circle who saw him as more than a companion but a brother, a mentor, a friend. Many recall with fondness the countless nights spent sharing drinks and laughter with friends who were truly like family. These memories, alongside stories of vacations taken with friends, paint the portrait of a man who embraced joy and camaraderie with open arms.
Family was Rollin’s cornerstone. He took care of his loved ones with a fierce determination. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jody Stapp, who stood by his side through every chapter. His children—John (Essie), Roger (Amanda), Micky, Sarah, and John—carry forward his legacy of resilience, strength, and unconditional love. Rollin's brother, Robert "Bob a Loo" Stapp, remains a staunch pillar in his surviving family. Beyond these closest ties, Rollin’s life was enriched by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who all cherish his memory.
Though Rollin’s parents, Lilburn and Eula Stapp, and son Ricky, along with siblings Lilburn Jr., Mildred, Lynn, Lois, Kenneth, and Phyllis, have preceded him in death, his legacy persists with an iron will, inspiring those left behind to live boldly and love fiercely.
The community will gather to honor Rollin Stapp’s life with a visitation beginning at 4:00 PM on June 19, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Indianapolis, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, IN 46227. The visitation will conclude at 7:00 PM when the Service starts.
