Listen to Obituary

Indianapolis – Rosalind Ann (Brothers) Brennan, 84, joined our Lord at 12:30pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

Mom was born on December 4, 1940 to Roscoe and Angeline (Clossey) Brothers. She was a 1959 graduate of St. John’s Academy in downtown Indianapolis. In her senior year, she was set up for a blind date with our father, Billie Edward Brennan. They were married April 23, 1960 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis.

Upon their marriage, mom went from Indianapolis city girl to North Salem farm wife and never looked back. In 1965, a tornado destroyed mom’s new house but spared herself, husband, and 2 small sons. She was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance, Wabash Insurance, and Hendricks County Hospital. She began a career with the State of Indiana on December 14, 1994, retiring from the Indiana Department of Corrections in 2007. Mom was remarried in the mid-1990s to Robert H. (Bob) Smith. Bob was a fun and loving stepfather and grandfather to her family and brought her several stepchildren and grandchildren into her life. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Speedway, IN.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Norma Jeanne (Brothers, Knight) Harwood. She is survived by her three sons: Timothy (Lisa Stassin) of Crane Hill, Alabama, Stephen (Timothy Gaalema) of Indianapolis, and Joshua (Angela Webb) of Navara, Florida. Also, her niece Claudia (Knight ) Lynch of California, and sister-in-law Betty (Brennan) Barnett of North Salem and 10 grandchildren: (Tim) - Joslyn Wesson & Lauren Simmons; (Joshua) - Cody Brennan-Jones (Kayvin Jones), Hailey Dove (Denny Dove), Dillion Spears, Karley Spears, and Jacob Faudree; (Stephen) – Timothy Spencer, Logan Abell (Kyley), and Brooke Paige Woods (Brady). Mom also had 14 great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews from our father’s side of the family.

Mom loved animals! In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be sent to Rosie’s Southside Animal Shelter at 1614 W. Edgewood Ave., Indpls., IN 46217. (email – rosie@ssasi.org). Mom was also a frequent contributor to Feed the Children and The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.

A Memorial Service will be held at a future date and will be announced via Facebook for any that wish to attend.
