Rose Fay (Smith) Cannon, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 83. Born on October 29, 1940, to Earl and Bessy Smith, she graced this world with her loving presence and gentle spirit, forever leaving an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Rose dedicated 25 years of her life working at Sears where her warm smile and kind heart made her not just a colleague, but a friend to many. Her commitment to service extended well beyond her professional achievements; she actively engaged in her community and her church, devoting herself to the teachings of her faith and inspiring others through her unwavering dedication.
In her personal life, Rose found immense joy in the tender moments spent with her grandchildren. The laughter and love shared within her family were the treasures she held dearest to her heart. As a proud mother to Beverly S. (Harley) Cooper, Katherine F. Gautier, and Donny L. (Cindy) Cannon, Jr., she nurtured and guided her children with a fierce love and devotion. Her legacy continues through her children and her numerous grandchildren, including Kathy Sue Blake, Cindy Smith, Robert Cooper, Shelly Spencer, Donny Cannon III, Stanley Spencer, Carrie Jones, Steven Cannon, Ryan Cannon, and Alex Cannon, as well as her 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Rose’s life was marked by her gentle kindness, a personality that radiated warmth to all those around her. She was a woman of deep faith, fervently praying on behalf of her family, and finding solace and joy in reading her Bible and joining in membership of the Keystone Avenue House of Praise.
Her marriage to Donny L. Cannon Sr. on May 10, 1958, remains one of her proudest accomplishments; their bond exemplifies a love that transcended the trials of life, even as she mourned the passing of her dear husband.
Rose's memory will be honored in a series of services held at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN.
