Roxie Grimes, born on January 24, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in her beloved hometown. A cherished daughter of James R. Hill and Sallie Miller Cole, Roxie's existence was one filled with warmth, love, and dedicated service to others.
Roxie was united in marriage to Julian E. Grimes on December 29, 1954, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Together, they built a life grounded in love and family. After the passing of her husband, Julian, Roxie continued to embody the spirit of warmth and kindness that he cherished.
Throughout her life, Roxie dedicated herself to her career as a cook and server at Laughner's Cafeteria, where her culinary skills and gracious service left an indelible mark on her patrons and coworkers alike. Cooking was not merely a profession for Roxie; it was a beloved hobby where she expressed her love for family and friends, creating lasting memories through shared meals and laughter.
Roxie's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jay (Beverly) Grimes, Jena (Nick) Gastil; Jonathon Grimes, and Tammy Grimes; and great-grandchildren Izabella Grimes, Cooper Waltermire, Molly Grimes, and Ashley (Kenny) Goldstein. She also leaves behind her brother Steve R. (Joan) Hill, who will carry forward her memory and the values she instilled in all who knew her.
Roxie joins in eternal rest with her predeceased loved ones, including her cherished husband Julian, her son Darrell Grimes Sr., and her grandson Darrell Grimes Jr., along with her parents James R. Hill and Sallie Miller Cole.
A graveside service honoring Roxie's life will be held on June 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, located at 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana.
Roxie Grimes leaves behind a legacy of love, cooking, and treasured moments, forever etched in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
