October 7, 2025, in Largo, Florida, surrounded by the warmth of loving memories. Born on February 11, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sandy was a beacon of kindness and generosity in the lives of all who knew her.
Sandy etched a remarkable path throughout her career, having dedicated her time and talents to various fields. She began her journey at Western Electric, ventured into the role of a school bus driver for Warren Township, and then proudly served for over 20 years at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department before retiring. Notably, she also thrived as a beautician for 30 years, bringing joy and beauty to her clients along the way. Her passion for learning was evident when she earned a Welding Degree from Ivy Tech, showcasing her commitment to personal growth and expertise.
Sandy was known for her hardworking nature and her zeal for life. She touched the hearts of many, offering help to anyone in need and always going the extra mile for her family and friends. Her generous spirit left an indelible mark on the lives she enriched, creating lasting friendships wherever she went.
In her leisure time, Sandy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved bowling in her younger years, embraced outdoor activities such as gardening, and cherished family get-togethers. Decorating her home was not just a task for Sandy; it was a joy that reflected her vibrant personality. She had a zest for life that was contagious, and her delightful presence will be deeply missed.
Sandy is survived by her dear children, Bruce (Debbie) Gazvoda, Virginia "Ginny" (Randy Jent) Gazvoda, and Albert "Alvy" (Monta) Gazvoda. She is also survived by her beloved brother, Stewart Mencer, and her sister-in-law, Nancy Mencer, who all mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elsie Mencer, first husband Albert Gazvoda, second husband Claude Newhouse, and companion Randy Sutherland. Her sons, Vaughn and Frankie Gazvoda, have also passed, leaving a legacy of love and unforgettable memories. Additionally, she is preceded by her siblings, Susan Wall, Stephen Mencer, Sherry Ann LeClercq, and Stanley Mencer.
A visitation to honor Sandy's life will take place on October 17, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, and she will be laid to rest during the burial service at Round Hill Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
Sandy's spirit, shaped by her kindness and zest for life, will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her legacy of generosity, love, and resilience will continue to inspire all.
