Shaun Lee Schafer, born May 26, 1980, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on March 26, 2026, in his hometown of Indianapolis. Shaun’s life reflected the warmth and vibrancy of a man who was truly the life of the party, a cherished son, brother, father, and friend, whose huge heart and infectious humor left lasting impressions on all who knew him.
Growing up in Indianapolis, Shaun was well known for being a “momma’s boy,” deeply loving and devoted to his family. Throughout his life, he was a jokester with a good sense of humor, never meeting a stranger and always ready to bring a smile to others’ faces. His love for family was evident in the strong bonds he nurtured and the joy he found in being surrounded by loved ones.
Shaun sought growth even in the face of adversity, achieving his GED while incarcerated, demonstrating a commitment to bettering himself. His interests reflected his dynamic personality—he enjoyed working on stereo equipment for cars, loved fast cars, and was passionate about building things with his hands. These hobbies brought him great satisfaction and allowed his creative spirit to flourish.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Destiny (Dillon) Prather, son, Brandon Schafer and spouse Gail Meacham who carry forward his legacy. Shaun was the proud family man to several grandchildren who brought him immense joy. His mother, LouAnn Schafer, survives him, alongside his siblings: Steve (Heather) Schafer, Christopher (Jess) Schafer, Mike (Sara) Schafer, Heather (Lee) Altum, Lisa (Rica) Schafer, Greg Schafer, Kristi Haskin, and Eric Herring. He is also remembered by his step-father, James Tanksley, and step-sons, Isaac and Isiah Blaylock, who held him in fond regard.
The Schafer family mourns the loss of a beloved member, joining in remembrance and love. Shaun also leaves behind cherished memories of those who have gone before him, including his father Edward Leroy Altum, uncle Donald Meade Sr., cousin Donald Meade Jr., family member Jason Stewart, aunt Carol Gunnel, and sisters-in-law Tara Jamison and Crystal Lawrence. Grandmother Francis Jean Meade is also remembered with affection.
A visitation in Shaun’s honor will be held on April 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
