Shirley Jewel Hewitt

  Shirley Jewel Hewitt, 74, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away August 28, 2026.

  Shirley graduated at Mooresville High School in 1970. Shortly after, she welcomed her daughter, Gloria Jean Cain. Shirley was a loving mother who taught her daughter how to bake, crochet, sew and to love unconditionally. She continued to instill these traditions in her grand daughter, Kimberly Jewel Crowe.

  Shirley later married her husband, George Hewitt. Together, they laughed with friends and family, frequently visited Peppy's Diner and continued to love each other beyond George's final days.

  Shirley loved crocheting, baking, doing puzzles, playing card games and spending time with her family. Even though she spent most of her years in Indianapolis, her favorite place was Arizona, where it was "warm and countryfied."

  She is survived by her daughter, Gloria J Cain, her grand daughter, Kimberly J Crowe (Trevor), her sister Lynda D Collins and two brothers, Larry and John D (Debbie) Collins, JR. She was preceded in death by her parents, John D and Marguerite J Collins, her brothers Harold D, Michael E (Bonnie), Marion E (Maria) and Warren E Collins and her husband, George Hewitt.

A funeral service for Shirley will be held Thursday, September 3 at 1 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions located at 925 East Hanna Avenue in Indianapolis. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum located at 9350 East Washington Street. Friends may gather for visitation from 10 am until the time of the service. 

Shirley was deeply loved and she will be profoundly missed by all who loved her.
