Stanley Hartman Jones

INDIANAPOLIS – Stanley Hartman Jones, 80, passed away peacefully at 5:50 AM on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born on March 6, 1943 in Trimble County, Kentucky to the late Robert E. and Savanna (Spurr) Jones. Stanley was a journeyman carpenter for 33 years at General Motors Indianapolis Stamping Plant and a proud member of UAW Local 23.

He enlisted in the United States Navy on December 29, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana and worked as an Aviation Jet Engine Mechanic and was honorably discharged on May 28, 1963 while stationed at Fort Barrancas in Pensacola, Florida.

Stanley loved cars, anything with a bowtie, especially his Corvette. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all Stanley absolutely loved and adored his family.

In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, Norman “Joe” Jones; nephew, Norman Eugene “Gene” Jones; and great grandson, Silas Matthew Callahan. Stanley is survived by his daughter, Robbin Jones Carter and her husband, Jerome; son, Greg Jones and his fiancé, Mandy Bowers; sister, Joyce Jones; sister-in-law, Carleene Jones; nieces, Terri Mann and Kelly McDonald; nephew, Tony Trips; as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A graveside service with United States Navy Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Round Hill Cemetery, 5235 South Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227 with Pastor Garry Brackett officiating. A reception will immediately follow at MCL Restaurant & Bakery, 3630 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.
