Steven Donald "Steve" Baker

October 7, 1957 — March 23, 2024

MOORESVILLE – Steven Donald “Steve” Baker, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends at IU Health University Hospital, in Indianapolis, Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10:08 p.m. He fought a long courageous battle with him finally succumbing to an inherited liver disease.

Steve was born Monday, October 7, 1957, to the late Donald Edward Baker and Barbara Jean (Faulkner) Hatfield at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Steve attended Arsenal Technical High School; thereafter, joining the Army National Guard and serving in the military for four years. He was united in marriage on November 27, 1982 to Deborah (Deb) Kay Hornsby at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, IN. Professionally, Steve worked as a heat-treating expert for Circle City Heat Treat in Indianapolis, IN for 42 years.

Steve and Deb did not have biological children, but considered their many dogs throughout the years as their children, literally. Steve would buy them steaks and even went as far as to cut the steaks up. He was known by all as the “ultimate” prankster and no one was excluded. Steve was always thinking of a way to trick someone and strangers were not excluded; however, friends and family were his ultimate prey. Some of his hobbies were collecting Henry rifles, Texaco items, etc., traveling, camping, boating and tinkering with old cars. He was a Top Fuel and Pro Stock Car enthusiast and his favorite drivers were Matt Hagan and Erica Enders. Since the 70’s Steve, with his brother, Scott (Scotty to him), and other family and friends attended the races at Lucas Oil Raceway Park and for the last several years camped at Raceview Family Campground for Labor Day Weekend.

Steve is survived by his loving brothers, Scott David Baker and his wife, Judy; Donald Stone and his wife, Pamela; and numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Baker and wife of 42 years, Deborah Kay Baker.
